“But anyway, who says controversy is a bad thing?!”
Suzie! Where have you been?
Discovering myself as an artist! These last couple of years have been insane with the pressure from school, lack of inspiration and limited time. There has never been so many people competing to find an audience for their music, you need a steady stream of new content which is what I was struggling with. I didn't know to stand out against the other pop artists and how to connect with my audience. That's why I’m back with 'Revamped' even though it’s took ridiculously long I never thought I’d see the day! Hopefully Revamped will appeal to my fans and prove to everyone that I belong in the music industry and this time, I'm definitely here to stay!
What went wrong with your first album?
My previous album was so relaxed and too boring it just weren’t me! I was so young but I’ve definitely matured as an artist and hopefully you will see that in my lyrics. My style has developed a lot and I'm certain that this change will keep all my fans intrigued, it’s so been worth the wait and I'm sure everyone else will agree! Revamped is an album that I believe in and focused on- even when I should have been studying for my GCSES!
What's different about your new album 'Revamped'?
I can't imagine my life without music now; it’s my escape from this wild reality. The people I hang with in sixth form have always liked a different kind of music to me, and I suppose I might have been embarrassed to admit I was passionate about the pop and rock genre. But to this day, bands and artists I listen to continue to influence the melodies, and sound that I’m drawn to. That’s why my new album is a lot more violent and edgy; it puts a twist on the pop genre by including different aspects of rock. I just want to keep my lyrics real and relatable by revealing the truth that society tries to conceal. Revamped will help my fans see me from a different perspective, this is who I am, take it or leave it!
So how do you plan to manage sixth form and your passion for music?
It’s hard being a young artist with so many responsibilities- I'm constantly getting into trouble for not meeting deadlines and skipping lessons! But my passion for music will always be my priority; I’ll choose it over everything- this is what I want to be doing for my entire life! It's been so hard to keep in contact with my friends with all these new opportunities but I’m so grateful for all the support from my fans.
Has anything inspired your new album?
Everything around me inspires me. Usually my lyrics involve different daily struggles and my crazy lifestyle. But I never focus on one topic, that’s so boring! I explore topics and things that interest me. Like desire, loss, and change but all the lyrics come naturally, there's definitely a song that everyone can relate to in my new album. Sometimes I'll be writing lyrics in lesson if I’m inspired by something that's happening. That's why my new album is so different and original- it's crazy.
The media has already classed you as a controversial artist very early on in your career, how do you feel about this?
I've always been the type of girl to say what’s on my mind and that's never going to change just because I’m in the public eye! Sure it's not easy being classed as a controversial artist but no matter what the media says, I'm not a bitch I just want to keep it real for my fans and if that means expressing myself as an artist then who cares! Hopefully my fans will look up to me for my integrity and independence. But anyway, who says controversy is a bad thing?!
Are there any artists who inspire your music?
Ever since I was young I would always listen to artists such as Avril Lavigne and P!nk so both of their styles of music are a huge inspiration to me, I love their attitude and fashion.
What can we all expect from Suzie Sweet in the future?
Well I'm constantly being inspired by different things so I guess we'll have to wait and see! I can say that I’m hoping to be performing at a few concerts and festivals. I can't believe I just said that, it’s just so surreal.
